A labiaplasty reduces the size of the labia minora (the inner lips of the vagina) with or without reduction of the clitoral hood. Every woman is unique and some women with large labia prefer the way it looks and feels, so deciding upon a labiaplasty is a very personal decision. Most women coming in for labiaplasty today are concerned about the physical appearance of the labia in yoga pants, bikinis and lingerie, but the labia can also effect general comfort and sexual pleasure. After a labiaplasty most women are more comfortable and confident in the way they look and feel. The procedure can be done under local anesthesia, which can reduce the extra costs of being in the operating room, or under "twilight" anesthesia where you wake up after a short nap with a new you. There is minimal discomfort associated with the procedure and the sutures used dissolve on their own. After the surgery patients should avoid sexual encounters or significant exercise for approximately one month. Vaginal tightening procedures can be done at the same time if desired.
