Liposuction in Wellington & West Palm Beach, FL
Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries requested in the South Florida and the Palm Beach area. It has now safely been performed on millions of men and women all over the world. At Hass Plastic Surgery we offer liposuction for men and women in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Palm Beach, Wellington, Royal Palm and the surrounding areas of Florida.
Often called ‘lipo’ for short, this body contouring plastic surgery helps slim and reshape specific areas of the body by getting rid of excess fatty deposits to improve overall proportion and contour. Liposuction can be performed alone or along with other plastic surgeries, such as breast augmentation, tummy tuck or even facial procedures to optimize recovery times..
Who is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
- Healthy adult patients who want to change the shape of their body.
- Ideal patients should be within 30% of their ideal weight, have elastic skin and fairly good muscle tone.
- Patients who want to fit better in clothing.
- Patients who have stubborn fat that doesn’t go away with diet and exercise.
A Little Liposuction History
Liposuction has always been a safe procedure since its development in the 1980s. Years ago, we thought of liposuction as mainly a fat removal or debulking surgery. Today we think about lipo as another cosmetic surgery option to help a patient achieve their desired shape. In fact, this plastic surgery is still the gold standard for permanent fat removal, but it is also the method to get transferrable fat. Harvested fat from liposuction can be injected into other areas on the body to create more fullness, curves, or fat deficiencies. One of the latest procedures that favors liposuction and fat transfer is the Brazilian Butt Lift.
What Happens During Liposuction?
Liposuction is an out-patient procedure and is performed in our Hass Plastic Surgery AAAASF surgical facility in Palm Beach Gardens. The procedure usually takes one to three hours and is performed under IV sedation (not general anesthesia), which makes the procedure safer and decreases the chance of post-operative nausea and fatigue. Incisions for liposuction are very tiny and inconspicuously placed in the body’s creases or areas of the body generally covered by clothing. Tumescent solution (saline mixed with lidocaine) is then infused into fatty areas with a cannula and then the liposuction procedure is performed through a similar tubing. There is minimal blood loss and no drains are used post-operatively. Patients wake up with a compression garment (girdle-style wrap or bodysuit) which helps compress the treated areas for swelling. The garment is generally worn for two to four weeks after surgery. At Hass Plastic Surgery liposuction can be safely combined with other surgeries such as breast augmentation or lift, tummy tuck, Brazilian butt lift or even facial procedures to optimize recovery times.
The New SAFE Liposuction Technique Gives Great Results
One of the newer liposuction techniques we use at Hass Plastic Surgery is called SAFE lipo. In fact, plastic surgeons around the world find this newer technique allows for them to create more dramatic and natural results without causing tissue damage or dermal adhesions (surface divots) caused by the more traditional methods. SAFE stands for how the lipo is performed as the method goes through, Separation, Aspiration of Fat for Equalization. With the newer technique a different style cannula is used which allows for separation of the fat in order to create a liquid layer. This liquid layer can then be evenly dispersed across the area where the lipo will be performed to allow for smoother fat removal. Once the appropriate amount of fat is removed the final step is equalization where the cannula is passed through those areas to break apart and/or fill any areas of waviness. It basically allows the doctor to blend in the treated areas so there is a smooth contour of transitions overall. With Safe lipo the quality of the fat available to transfer is perfect for grafting into other parts of the body, (i.e. the buttocks for a Brazilian Butt Lift, the hands or even other areas with fat deficiencies).
On What Areas of the Body can Lipo Be Performed?
Areas that can be treated with liposuction at Hass Plastic Surgery are the upper and lower abdomen, (fondly called muffin top or love handles), also the flanks, upper or lower back, buttocks, thighs, knees, male chest area, upper arms, or even under the chin and neck areas.
What is the Recovery Like After Liposuction?
Once you’ve recovered in our center, a family member or friend will need to pick you up and stay with you for at least 24 hours after surgery. There is usually some minor soreness after surgery, but this is easily controlled with pain medication. In fact, many patients do not need pain medication other than Tylenol. Minor swelling occurs, but generally disappears rapidly over the next one to three weeks and will continue to get better over the next three months. Most patients will have little bruising and can generally resume many normal activities within the first week. Normal routines and workouts can generally be resumed between two to four weeks, depending on the amount of lipo performed or the combination of procedures.
What Results Can I Expect from Lipo?
Liposuction results can be quite dramatic and can help to give patients a beautiful, balanced, and proportioned body contour. Most patients feel more confident and certainly more comfortable in the way their clothes fit. Keep in mind this is not a weight loss promise, even though liposuction results are permanent.
