Women Ask: What are the Benefits of Vaginal Rejuvenation?

ThermiVA® model in white

Yes – it's true. Urinary incontinence is one of the most complained about concerns for women of many ages. In fact, it's reported that more panty liners are sold to women over the age of 50 than those in their teens and 20s, mainly for a leaky bladder and stress incontinence. (Well, it's time to say “bye-bye, Kegel exercises” and “hello, ThermiVa!”

ThermiVa is an FDA-approved device (wand) that couples heat with radiofrequency waves to promote collagen synthesis, tightening and shrinkage for the internal and external vaginal tissues. It is an in-office, non-invasive, 30-minute procedure with no recovery. An applicator gently massages, internally and externally, several vaginal zones to help restore atrophic tissues, nerves and muscles. Most patients describe it as a warm massage feeling, with no pain or discomfort.

Patients may resume all normal activity, including sexual intercourse, the same day, and the results can be long lasting. ThermiVa treatments for Vaginal Rejuvenation include three separate visits over a period of three months and are performed by our female practitioners. Patients must have had a negative gynecological exam within the last year.

The benefits of ThermiVa include: increased sexual stimulation, reduced stress incontinence (cough with confidence), tighter external labia, tightening of the vaginal canal (make your partner happy), easier orgasms (yay for you!), increased lubrication, and in most cases, improved confidence. Results can be visible immediately after the first treatment, but the full outcome may take a few months. Outcomes generally last up to 12 months before a touch-up is recommended.

At Hass Plastic Surgery & MedSpa Ashley Erikson, our Nurse Practitioner who provides vaginal rejuvenation for patients, says, “It's exciting to be able to offer our patients this non-surgical, non-hormonal option to treat gynecological conditions such as urinary incontinence or decreased sexual stimulation and vaginal laxity. Patient feedback has been extremely positive.”
