Facelift in Palm Beach Gardens

Facelift Palm Beach Gardens

A Beautiful Beginning to a Younger You

As your face ages, there is a loss of skin elasticity and firmness—tissues sag at the jowls and neckline, deep folds and wrinkles form between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), and some of you can feel like you have a double chin, even though you are average weight. The loss of a youthful facial contour is due to a variety of factors, including gravity, heredity, environmental conditions, weight fluctuations, or even stress. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Hass offers facelifts for men and women in Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Wellington, and the surrounding areas of Florida. As a facelift specialist, plastic surgeon Dr. Hass is among one of the busiest facelift surgeons in the country, performing thousands of lifts for patients.

What is a Facelift?

Choosing The Right Cosmetic Procedure

Medically known as the rhytidectomy, a facelift surgery performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Brian Hass is designed to correct the signs of aging to give you uplifted contours and improved tone for your facial skin and underlying muscles. A facelift includes surgically modifying the tissues under your skin and drawing back a flap of skin on either side of your face to restore the contour to a more youthful shape. Sagging or folds of skin on the cheekbones and jawline and other changes in the form of your face that occur with age are corrected or reduced before the flap is sutured together.

What is a Mini Facelift?

Many people begin to address the signs of aging earlier in their lives, and thus facelift techniques have evolved to minimize the amount of correction performed during the procedure. The mini facelift is one such advancement. The surgery focuses on the lower third of the face, where some of the earliest signs of age appear. The incisions are smaller than a full facelift, and the significantly shorter recovery period is why many people refer to the procedure as a “weekend facelift.”

Why Are There so Many Names for Facelifts?

your face is your most visible feature

You have probably heard the terms ‘mini-facelift,’ ‘weekend or style lifts,’ ‘thread lifts,’ or even the ‘vertical or S-lift.’ These are just some of the catchphrases for cosmetic facial procedures—many of which are not always performed by board-certified plastic surgeons. The areas of West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Stuart, and Vero Beach up to Orlando, like other South Florida cities, all seem to have their own set of monikers for facelift procedures. Though these terms and their marketing can be overwhelming—always remember, the goal of facial rejuvenation is to bring your outer appearance into harmony with your inner feelings of youth, energy, and optimism.

Your face is your most visible feature. When you feel like you look your best, you tend to have more confidence—one of the sole reasons why patients choose the doctors at Hass Plastic Surgery for their cosmetic facial rejuvenation. Our plastic surgeons understand most men and women in South Florida have active lifestyles and want to look as good as they feel. No patient comes to our office and says, “I want to look like I had work done.” Thousands of happy, natural-looking patients can attest to this statement.

Am I a good candidate for a Facelift?

Beautiful and Beneficial

A facelift is best performed on healthy women and men (typically those between the ages of 40 through 80) who are non-smokers and have realistic goals for their improved appearance. Other cosmetic procedures often performed in conjunction with a facelift are rhinoplasty, earlobe reduction or repair, microneedling/PRP, and injectable fillers for the fine lines around the mouth. The upper facial surgeries of an eyelid or forehead lift can also be performed at the same time by Dr. Andrea Hass, our board-certified ophthalmic plastic surgeon. Just as every face is unique, our doctors’ unique approach and specialties allow them to customize procedures to fit your needs.

Facelifts may be combined with a variety of additional treatments to provide the best possible outcomes. However, the advantages are seeing your face with firmer and tighter skin, fewer wrinkles, reduced or eliminated double chin, jowls, and other signs of aging, thus making you appear younger and more confident in photographs and in the mirror. After your facelift, our injector specialists will continue to address your ongoing filler, Botox and skin care needs to keep you looking great for years to come.

What Happens During a Facelift?

Your Facelift Procedure

Dr. Brian Hass or one of our other plastic surgeons will perform your facelift in our fully accredited AAAASF facility at Hass Plastic Surgery in Palm Beach Gardens. The surgery is about two to three hours, and patients sleep comfortably through the procedure with total IV sedation (monitored anesthesia), not general anesthesia. If eyelid or forehead lift is combined, the surgery may be one to two hours longer. Incisions for facelift surgery are placed discreetly within the hairline, inside the ear, and continue around the earlobe in the crease and into the back of the hairline. However, there is no need to shave your hair. Fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the face and the jowls, and the neck and underlying tissues are repositioned. Skin is re-draped over the uplifted contours, and the excess skin removed.

What is the Recovery Period Like After a Face Lift?

Facelift Recovery

After you have recovered at our center, you will go home (or to a nearby hotel) with a caregiver, a capable family member, or a friend. For those who travel in for the surgery, we ask that you spend the first 24 hours locally (within 30 minutes of our office) as we will see you in our office 24 hours later to remove your headwrap dressing. (Note: no drains are used with a facelift with Hass Plastic Surgery doctors.) We have many recommendations for overnight nursing care for those who need extra help, whether in their home or at a hotel. We’re happy to give you that information at your consultation or pre-op appointments. Patients can shower on the second day after surgery, but we prefer you avoid a hot hairdryer.

The surgery is not uncomfortable (as many imagine), and there is minimal pain, which is easily controlled by medications. Stitches inside the ear or around the eyelids are removed five days post-operatively, and the remaining sutures behind the ears or in the brow are removed ten days post-surgery. Recovery from a facelift varies from patient to patient and depends upon the extent of the procedures performed. As with any surgery, some swelling and minor bruising occur. Bruises tend to resolve within a week to two weeks, and much of the swelling subsides within the first two weeks, though it may take several months for all swelling to resolve. Patients generally spend the first week post-operatively resting, but by the second week, they can start to resume some light activities. After eight to 12 days, patients often can go back to work and begin to go out socially. Regular exercise can usually begin within four weeks after surgery.

What Results Can I Expect from a Facelift?

Facelift Results

While a natural and presentable appearance is seen in the first week, it will continue to improve over the next three to nine months. The jowl line and neck are restored, and a youthful fullness is returned to the face. Patients are pleased with their younger appearance and often feel as if they look 10 to 15 years younger. Remember, a facelift does not change your fundamental appearance and make you look windswept, nor does it stop the aging process. You should look beautiful, refreshed, and rested. Although you will continue to age naturally, your aging will progress from the more youthful version of yourself that has been restored by facial surgery. Whether you choose to have a second or even third facelift someday often depends on your facial characteristics. Typically, we expect a facelift surgery to last at least seven to 10 years (or more)! For patients who have their first lift after age 60, they may want to have their next lift sooner due to natural loss of skin elasticity that occurs with age.

FaceliftFrequently Asked Questions

A facelift is uncomfortable rather than painful. We provide pain medications because we want patients to have an easy recovery. After the first few days, many patients are comfortable with just Tylenol.

Unfortunately, a facelift is not permanent since the aging process continues. How long a facelift lasts is affected by genetic programming and lifestyle choices. In general, assuming a healthy lifestyle and normal genetics, most patients will often choose to repeat a facelift in eight to 12 years. It is not uncommon for a person to have three facelifts in their lifetime – around 50, 60, and 70. It is their ultimate secret to aging gracefully! Patient who start at 60 or later may want to do another lift sooner due to natural loss of elasticity that occurs with age.

Any wrinkles caused by excess skin will be significantly improved with a facelift. Skin texture issues and loss of elasticity are not corrected with surgery. This is treated with fillers, microneedling/PRP and skin care. We encourage patients to have their first facelift as soon as they see signs of aging, typically around 45 to 55 years old.

Aging changes cause fullness in the lower face and laxity and wrinkling of the neck. We encourage patients to seek their first facelift as soon as they begin to see these changes. Most patients will be around 50-55 years old.

A facelift is not considered major surgery in that it is performed under twilight anesthesia, and you can go home for your recovery. You may feel fatigued as you recover, and you must take it easy during your downtime after your procedure.

We built our practice on providing you with excellent guidance and exceptional results. We want you to get the best procedure for you; that’s why we offer complimentary consultations. Our team wants you to feel confident about your procedure before you undergo plastic surgery.
