What is a Breast Augmentation?

Which Procedure is Right For You?

Breast augmentation is a straightforward operation in which implants are placed under the breast muscle to increase a woman's breasts' size, fullness, and even firmness. With Breast Augmentation Palm Beach Gardens patients can restore volume after pregnancy, nursing, or significant weight loss.

What is Breast Revision Surgery?

If you are unhappy with the results of a previous Breast Augmentation procedure, we may recommend breast revision surgery. This may involve replacing an implant, removing scar tissue, and correcting flaws related to your first surgery.

What Happens During a Breast Augmentation Consultation?

Ask About Our ‘Mentor Sizing System’

After you meet with one of our patient coordinators, your surgeon will review your patient history to discuss your augmentation options. It is important to discuss size and implant options that fit your body’s dimensions to fully assess how Breast Augmentation will look for you.

Additional Reading

We have several methods to help you determine an ideal shape and look for your body, and we will review those at your consult We also suggest if you have a photo of a model whose breasts you like, bring that with you so your surgeon can help determine if that look is realistic for your body type. Images are most helpful when the model is topless, as photos with push-up bras can falsely represent how your breasts will appear in real life. In our office, we offer the Mentor Sizing System, in which you can ‘try on’ your new look with various sizes of implants placed in a bra. We are often asked about Breast Augmentation scarring, and for this reason, your surgeon will make the incision in a discreet location on your breast to enhance the overall results of your surgery.

The most commonly used incision choices are in the inframammary fold or along the edge of the areola. This decision will be based on your aesthetic goals and your individual anatomy. After your initial consultation and surgery are scheduled, a pre-operative appointment will be planned to review all details with your team. Cosmetic breast surgery patients will be required to have updated mammography if recommended by Breast Cancer Society guidelines and should be of blood-thinning vitamins and supplements.

How Do I Know What Type of Breast Implants Are Right for Me?

Schedule a Consultation to Discuss Your Options

Breast implants are offered in a wide variety of sizes and profiles to provide you with the most options. Both the saline and the gel silicone implants (often called ‘gummy bear’) have proven safe and have been FDA-approved since 2006. Your surgical team in Palm Beach Gardens and Wellington can also help see if other cosmetic breast surgery options are more appropriate to help you meet your breast’s beauty goals. For example, in some cases, patients may need a breast lift and Breast Augmentation depending on the laxity of the breast tissue before inserting the implants.

Your Breast Augmentation Procedure

Dedicated and Compassionate Care

Your Palm Beach Gardens Breast Augmentation procedure is an outpatient surgery that takes about one to two hours to complete. The structure of your body and your surgeon's recommendations will decide the method for placing and positioning your implants. Every attempt will be made to position the incision so that any scars are as subtle as possible. A pocket is created under your breast tissue or behind your chest wall muscle. The implants are then inserted under your nipples. The risk of capsular contracture is reduced by placing the implants behind the chest muscle. This also gives a more natural result.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

Your Time to Shine

You may experience some soreness and swelling for a few weeks after surgery. However, your scars will continue to fade over time. It is vital to use the provided surgical bra for additional support and placement of the breast implants while you’re healing. Depending on the strenuous level of your job, you may be able to return to work in one to two weeks. For at least four to six weeks, it is vital to avoid working out or other vigorous activities - anything that might raise your pulse or blood pressure. Keep in mind that your breasts will be sensitive to physical touch or jarring acts while recuperating, and you must allow yourself the proper time to heal.

Breast Augmentation Frequently Asked Questions

Patients may experience soreness in their chest for several days after surgery. This is easily controlled with pain medications as needed. We will supply your medications at the pre-op visit.

Bleeding, infection, scarring, asymmetry, discomfort, edema, change in sensation, and other complications are possible side effects of Breast Augmentation. However, complications with breast augmentation are rare.

Gummy bear implants are a newer style of silicone implants where the gel inside has the consistency of a gummy bear candy. They feel soft and like natural breast tissue but retain their shape more than older styles of implants. This can help patients with thinner skin prevent the implants from showing ripples through the skin. These implants also maintain their shape in the unlikely event they rupture.

Typically, the procedure takes 60 minutes to complete. However, it can take more or less time depending on the individual patient or if a lift is needed at the same time.

There are several ways to choose implant size. We listen to each patient’s goals and preferences and then align those with the patient’s unique chest anatomy to collectively decide on the implants (or cc’s) that will be used to achieve the patient’s goals. We also have photos for patients to view to help identify a patient’s desired fullness.

Rarely, some women with breast implants experience a handful of symptoms, collectively referred to as breast implant illness (BII). While the cause of this is still being investigated, there is no direct evidence linking breast implants to these symptoms. Breast implants are the most studied medical devices in history and are considered very safe.

Breast implant-associated cancer (BIA-ALCL) is a rare cancer that can develop in women with textured breast implants. However, most breast implants we place are smooth and carry no risk of BIA-ALCL.

We built our practice on providing you with excellent guidance and exceptional results. We want you to get the best procedure for you; that’s why we offer complimentary consultations. Our team wants you to feel confident about your procedure before you undergo plastic surgery.
